Shallow Is Not Deep

I should not be surprised where I am today,
It was set well before I knew the steps,
Yet, I learned the steps and did not follow through,
Surrounded in the knowledge from birth,
All my years of learning, to what?
To a puddle that I call my faith?
Shallow is the relationship I hold,
Not one to my friends,
But to the very One that gives me life,
No longer do I wish that path,
I will pick my Book, and know Its words,
And dwell more in silence,
To hear what needs to be said.
